Newcastle: One Session, One Sauna, Ten Seconds in an Ice Bath

Richard Symonds travelled to Newcastle for a one-to-one session with Lee McFarland. He survived the session and the sauna. The ice bath was another story.

When Lee announced that Richard Symonds was coming to Newcastle for a session with him the next morning, he added a helpful emoji: 🤮. Richard’s reply didn’t inspire much confidence either: “I’m also out with a client tonight, so being sick is highly probable.”

Putting the work in

The next morning Lee shared the proof: Richard “putting the effort in”. Then came the reward, or the punishment, depending on how you look at it: sauna time.

Richard’s verdict afterwards: “Survived the session and the sauna! Some great schooling for me. Would recommend, if you’re in the area, to train with Lee. Great tips.”

The ice bath

Lee had one more surprise. “Plus an ice bath, which Richard really enjoyed,” he reported. Richard set the record straight: “Lasted a good 10 seconds.”

Sapar Karyagdyyev wanted to know if the sauna was mandatory. Jan Urbanec called it “some serious VIP treatment”. And Richard, who had admitted at the start of camp to just “a handful of boxercise classes 10 years ago”, was another session closer to fight night.

Richard meets Luka Vukicevic on the night. See the full card, or if your team fancies a session (sauna optional), get in touch.
