46 People, One Morning: WBC Cares UK on Our Lisbon Session

46 people turned up for one boxing session in Lisbon. Our partners WBC Cares UK reflect on what it means to take boxing into new communities with Behind The Gloves.

Forty-six people. One morning. One hell of a session. During SBC Summit Lisbon, 46 people joined our morning boxing session at Ginásio KO, and our boxing partners at WBC Cares UK summed up what it meant better than we could. We’re resharing their words here, because they capture exactly why this partnership works.

In their words

Here’s what WBC Cares UK shared after the session:

“This is exactly what WBC Cares UK is about.

When Scott Welch first brought the team into this project with Behind The Gloves, the opportunity was about doing something different. Taking boxing beyond the places we normally operate, stepping into new communities and seeing where our experience, our coaches and our network can make a genuine difference.

This week in Lisbon is a great example of that.

46 people turning up for a boxing session is brilliant, but for us the bigger picture is what happens when you use boxing to bring people together who might never normally share the same space or experience.

New communities. New partnerships. New opportunities to create impact.

WBC Cares has never just been about boxing. It is about using boxing as the vehicle to connect people, open doors and create opportunities that can continue long after an individual session or event has finished.

Proud of what the team delivered and excited about where this partnership can go next.

Boxing can reach people. WBC Cares is about making sure that reach means something.”

Why it matters to us

That last line says it all. Behind The Gloves started with a simple idea: use boxing to get people moving, talking and giving back. Having WBC Cares UK in our corner, with their coaches, their safety standards and their network, is what lets us take that idea to conference mornings across the world and, in January, into the ring at Midnight Mayhem in Barcelona.

Thank you to Scott Welch and the whole WBC Cares UK team for everything you delivered in Lisbon, and to everyone who got up early to join us. Here’s to where this partnership goes next.
